Winning beers for this year's football tournament

Thirteen of Booths beauties formed their own football team, (11 players and 2 reserves) to get the biggest football tournament off to a great start.  Staff from the food and drink retailer, Booths, lined up to promote a top class international squad of beers that will score a big hit with football fans from around the world.

Referee beer buyer Dave Smith searched all corners of the globe to select a line up of drinks that will provide the perfect match to all of this summer’s key fixtures at the world’s most famous football tournament.

A total of 17 out of the 32 countries taking part in South Africa from 11 June – 11 July will be represented in Booths’ winning choice of beers.  There will also be a range of fantastic offers and deals.

Ready for kick off are beers from South Africa, England, Japan, Greece, Italy, USA, Germany, Holland, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Nigeria, France, New Zealand, Portugal and Australia.

Dave Smith has a reputation for seeking out the best beers from Britain and other countries.  He says: “It’s been a lot of fun looking at what beers are available in the countries taking part in South Africa this summer.  I think we’ve got an unbeatable choice of beers and wines in store for football fans to enjoy this summer.

“Booths has always prided itself on the quality and range of its beers and wines – we stock more than 120 English ales alone – but this year I think we’ve taken the competition to a new level. Let’s hope we can all toast England’s success with one of Booths fantastic tipples!”

A strong contender from South Africa is Windhoek’s South African Lager, a lovely golden beer with a barley malt aroma.

There are also three beers from famed South African brewer Robsons – Durban Pale Ale, East Coast Golde Ale and West Coast Ale.

England is very well represented with a patriotic bunch of beers that includes Bank’s Lions Roar which has been specially created.

Goliath is another powerful English beer full of flavour made by the Wychwood Brewery in Oxfordshire.

Another big hitter is Marstons Fever Pitch which is the ideal tipple to cheer on our English heroes.

From further afield comes a new Star Lager from Nigeria, Mac’s Gold from New Zealand and Quilmes Beer from Argentina.  The United States is represented by a Samuel Adams Beer and Germany by Bitburger Pils.  Brazilian Xingu Black Beer is also in the starting line up, together with Sapporo from Japan and Peroni Gran Reserva.

Special beer and wine offers during the tournament include 12 packs of Sol, Cobra Premium Beer, Staropramen, Corona Extra, Cusquena Peruvian Lager and Tiger Beer for just £20.

Customers can choose any eight of these English beers for only £8 – Banks Lions Roar, Jennings Bitter, Marstons Double Drop, Wychwood Goliath, Marstons Fever Pitch and Courage Best Bitter.

Booths also has a selection of other £1 beers which include: Adnams Lighthouse Light Golden Beer, Joseph Holt Humdinger Ale, Thwaites Thoroughbred Gold, Banks Bitter and Manns Original Brown Ale.

Booths’ unrivalled range of beers recently led it to beating off competition from national supermarket giants Tesco and Morrisons to be voted Multiple Beer Retailer of the Year in the Drinks Retailing Awards 2010, organised by trade publication Off Licence News.
